• Understand the role of the support worker in minimising cross infection
• Refer to relevant legislative guidance in the prevention of infection
• Sate common infectious diseases within the care sector
• Demonstrate knowledge of the chain of infection
• Implement safe working practices
• Identify when to utilise appropriate protective clothing
• Apply basic hand washing techniques
• Apply the correct procedures for handling, storage and disposal of waste
